May Day Madness comes to Shepherdstown!

Saturday May 6 is Shepherdstown Music and Dance’s busiest day of the year!  Starting with erecting a 22ft tall maypole on the McMurran Lawn, all the way until the end of last-of-the-season Contra Dance, where we hold our annual elections for the Board of Directors.

Musicians, Green Men, Merry Maidens, Fools, Hobby Horses, and Merry Revelers all are invited to join in the fun.  Dress in costume or colorful spring attire.
The Revelry Under the Pole includes poetry, songs, participatory dances and dance and music for all to enjoy, ending with the wrapping of the maypole.
Morris Dance Spectacles take place off and on throughout the day.

Saturday, May 6 at 8PM Contra Dance at the Shepherdstown War Memorial Building

Join us for a lively evening of dance as caller, Greg Frock calls a fabulous array of contra and square dances to the music of Callithump, with David Knight on fiddle, Andrew Marcus on accordion, and Glen Collinson on bouzouki. We have a beginners workshop at 7:30PM, the dance starts at 8. Potluck snacks at the break. Please wear soft-soled shoes to protect the floor. Admission is $12 adults, $8 members (you should join!), $5 for Shepherd Students with ID and children under 12.

Annual Board of Directors election will be held at the break… voting by active members only.

Voting… Members are encouraged to vote by either email or in person at the dance.  Out current slate for the board of directors is:  Joanie Blanton, Nick Blanton, Alex Shaw, Carline Shaw, John Sauer, Meara Cole, Kay Smith, Kathy Bilton and Eric Bluntzer.

Retiring… Several of our hard working board members are retiring.  Becky Lidgerding and Jeanne Marie McClure are retiring after 25 years of service as Dance and Hospitality chairs, and Diane Walker, our current president, is retiring after 15 years of service.  We also lose the cheerful smile and willing hands of storyteller, Adam Booth, who has a busy touring schedule, which makes it impossible for him to serve.

Thanks to all of these folks for many, many years of dedicated service to our dance community!

End of May Post
